Restoration of an Original German World War 2 M1940 Stahlhelm ( Steel Helmet ) Amazing end result!!
Restoring World War II artifacts not only connects us to the past but also preserves the stories embedded in these historical items. Today, I’ll walk you through the restoration of an original German WWII M40 steel helmet, focusing on the meticulous process of bringing this piece of history back to life.

Identifying and Acquiring the Helmet
The helmet in question is an
original German WWII M40 model, produced by the renowned factory, Quist. These helmets are easily recognizable by their distinctive shape, vent holes, and thick steel, which makes them notably heavy. The hallmark of a Quist helmet is its deep stamp, visible through the steel, with the manufacturer's mark and the shell size—64 in this case. Quist helmets are known for their high quality, with some produced as late as 1944, even though the M40 design was phased out in favor of the M42 model earlier in the war.
