Embarking on a metal detecting adventure on the Western Front provides an exhilarating opportunity to unearth remnants of WWII. Our aim was to explore possible dump sites, discover personal items, and delve into the rich history hidden beneath the forest floor.
Initial Findings and Surprises
As we set up our gear and began the search, our first finds were typical of a military base camp: shell casings and other bits of debris. However, our expectations were exceeded when an unexpected and heavy object surfaced—a cannonball. This impressive find, likely a 12th-century relic, was a stark reminder of the diverse history layered in this area. While not typical, it highlighted the unpredictable nature of metal detecting.
