In Yokohama, a massive kaiju suddenly appears, prompting an emergency evacuation. The city is thrown into chaos as the monster begins its rampage. Helicopters attempt to subdue it with firepower, but the creature remains unharmed. The situation seems dire until the Third Division, an elite unit led by Captain Mina, arrives and dispatches the kaiju with a single shot from a railgun. The city breathes a sigh of relief, celebrating the Third Division’s triumph without casualties.
Amid the celebration, Kafka, a member of the cleanup team, is tasked with collecting a sample from the kaiju’s remains. As he works, he witnesses one of his colleagues mishandle an organ, leading to a violent explosion that injures another worker. Kafka is left to deal with the kaiju’s intestines, a gruesome task that makes him physically ill. Despite his disgust, Kafka performs his duty, reflecting on his childhood dream of joining the defense force alongside Mina.
