Seventy years after the end of World War II, the oceans continue to conceal a dangerous legacy beneath their surfaces: sunken warships and cargo vessels. These underwater relics pose an environmental and human threat, long forgotten by most of the world but not by a few diligent experts. In particular, the wrecks that are deteriorating with time hold potentially catastrophic consequences. It is a race against time to mitigate these dangers before the oceans pay the price.
One such expert is Benedict Ha, a former commander in the Polish Navy, who leads a dedicated research team from the Marine Institute of Gdansk. Their focus is on the wreck of the German hospital ship Stuttgart, which sank off the coast of Gdansk during the war. This massive ship, nearly 170 meters long, was bombed by American forces in 1943 and subsequently sunk to prevent it from blocking the harbor.
